Trouble's Travel Blog
Meet Trouble

Trouble travels the world in search of the world's greateast Tantrix Table player. But oh, he is fickle and will abandon anyone who loses the title and instead gladly take up with anyone who can dethrone the current keeper. How long Trouble stays your companion depends who how long you can hold onto the title.

This travel blog is to follow Trouble as he journeys around the world with whoever has earned the right to carry him. Entries should be made each time a challenge takes place, no matter who wins, or whenever Trouble is doing something interesting on day trips.

Trouble Rules

To tame the heart of Trouble, a challenger must:

  • Have previously competed in a Tantrix Table Open.

  • Formally challenge the keeper of the beast to a Table Match. The keeper must accept any reasonable challenge.

  • Win a two-game challenge match against the keeper.

    If the challenger loses or draws the first game, the second game is not played and the keeper retains Trouble.

    If two games are played, the winner is the player with the highest combined TP score.

  • Unsuccessful challengers may not challenge again until Trouble changes hands.

  • All challengers, whether successful or not, must note on the blog the outcome of their match.

  • Table Tournaments can not be used as challenge matches.

  • Promise to be nice to Trouble, and take him on travels whenever possible.
Where is Trouble Now?    He is currently in: Gothenburg, Sweden.     Add to Trouble's Travel blog

First challenger deafeted... Mum (Nica) challanged me for trouble 00:30, not sure if that's seen as a "resonable challange" that I had to accept, but I did anyway.

In the middle game I succeeded to get both her ends onto two controlled sides and keep them blocked almost until the endgame, but by then I had managed to increase my line by more than she could catch up with. Phew, I survived the first challenger, who's next? :-)

Sweden has Trouble! :-)

Filled with confidence after winning the second WTO I challanged Rick on the Sunday evening in the restaurant.

To be honest I don't remember much of the game more than I manage to get one end of Rick's line blocked quite early in game 2, but Rick still managed to get a draw.

However, the win from the first game was enough to give Trouble a new owner.

Trouble's next open will probably be the Swedish open in november, but if anyone want to come to Gothenburg to challange me before the Swedish open you're more than welcome! :-)

Niklas

After Klaus didn´t get back Trouble to Germany in his challange on 14th of June I tried it a day later. It take Britta more work to defend. The two games ended in a draw too. The games were played in the flat of Mike and Britta in Guillestre. We (klaus, Justus and Constantin) spend some nice days there. We cycled to col de VArs and Col de Agnel and to St. Veran. Trouble have to stay in Queyras longer now. I guess he will enjoy this area really.

In a cossy hut, during we are waiting until Susi and Justus were arriving after a small walk in a pretty national park nearby Guilestre I challanged Britta. It was a relaxed and fast and only one game. The result was a draw and Trouble have to stay at Britta. I m sure she will rake care on him.

I just challenged Britta but got thrashed in the first game. It was a beautiful location- seaside cafe on a remote Greek island. But seems that Trouble prefers female company. Sniff.

Dear Trouble,

i hope you enjoy your time there, in Argentina. I'm sure it's gonna be great to travel with Britta, she is very nice. And a great cook, if you are hungry, just ask her (-;

Thanks for the time we've spent together, i really enjoyed every moment of it. There was a big storm here, a few hours after you've left, I think it was New Zealand crying after you.

I hope we meet in Budapest, or somewhere else soon. You have to tell me everything happening to you over there d-:

Cheers,
blick

PS: if somebody asks, tell them, that the last challenge was very close. The first match ran out of my hands... And only 1 more tile needed to my line, to keep your company, but it didn't work...

Hi, it's me, Trouble. I thought it was about time I get a say on this blog too, since it IS my blog, right? First of all, the breaking news - I am going on a big trip. Again! And I think I am leaving tomorrow. To South America. Long way they say, so we take the plane. Air New Zealand allows small aligators to travel in the hand luggage, as long as they are cuddly, like me, and keep quiet during flight. And of course I am not allowed to stick my head out. That's fine, I can do that. Still not sure what triggers a trip. They come kind of random. One moment I'm being looked after, spoilt almost, and the next I have to pack my bags. But hey, I'm not complaining. I like travelling. I've made an observation though. Just before my travels, there's always a game of Tantrix. I get to watch. There's lots of pretend-thinking going on, and then all of a sudden there's shouting and sighing, one of the players grabs me, shakes me, squeezes me, and I hear a "Go pack". So I do. At other times, they play, and I'm already in the starting blocks, but then, no grabbing, no squeezing and no go pack. It's all very confusing. But one day 'll figure it out, because even though I am small, I can keep three thoughts in my head at the same time! Blick fed me well and gave me heaps of belly scratches. Does anybody know Bdot? Is she nice?

Hugs,
Trouble

Well, Trouble seems to enjoy staying in Mapua (-;

After the New Zealand Open I've challenged Dave (lytnin) - this was the closest and most exciting challenge I've played so far. He won the first game, by 4 tiles so i needed a win by 4 in the second game. In the endgame, i was leading by 3, he had 2 tiles left and i had 2 tiles left. It was my turn, and i needed to force both of his tile. For like 3 minutes I was looking for a solution, i almost gave up, when suddenly i realized there is a solution, so i won by 4. And Dave saw this move before me, so i guess he was quite nervous if i spot it out or not (-;

Yesterday I went to Nelson, to challenge Jungle. He won the first game, and i became really nervous, that Britta is going to kill me (if i lose) as she hasn't challenged me yet (-; But the second game went okay for me, so at the end i won by 5 tiles.

Britta is next - I'm a bit scared that Trouble wants to go back to her, home... Also it's getting cold here and he doesn't really like cold weather, I guess... Will see.

Trouble has come home to Mapua, but we don't know how long he wants to stay.

This morning I challenged Blick, taking advantage of the fact he had gotten up pretty early and had already played 3 championship matches against Sirpi (of which Blick won none).

Trouble likes nice scenery so we played down by the sea at the local cafe.
However the gods were feeling guilty and Blick cruised to any easy win despite my skillful two line tactics.

Now the hopes of Mapua, New Zealand, and possibly the entire Southern Hemisphere rest on the broad shoulders of Bdot....

Top Tips -

1. When challenging for Trouble, try to make it when Trouble is not being held by the world champion.

2. When challenging the world champion for Trouble try not to do anything too stupid in the first 4 moves.

I join the exalted company of Leslie and Greenfox as those who have fought Blick and lost for Trouble.

Trouble is about to survive the very cold winter in Hungary. After a great new year party (unfortunately nobody challenged for him, even though there were lots of tantrix players at the party...) he has traveled to Gießen, Germany. Leslie and me were with him. Previous day leslie said, if we can play on the train, he wants to challenge for Trouble. And we had a great table for the Pocket pack (-:

He won the first game, by 3 tiles, so it was getting exciting. A few hours later we played the 2nd match, where i managed to win by 4 tiles, so it was just enough to keep Trouble. Phew!

Then came the German Open, which was quite good, Trouble helped me to catch the 2nd place, he was watching all my matches (-: - well, almost all, once he helped Britta a little.

On Sunday evening after dinner Lotta (greenfox) fell in love with Trouble. It was mutual, he wanted really to go with a young lady (-: But the thought of the long, cold Swedish winter scared him, so he stayed with me (I won the first game).

Probably he wanted to go home: next stop is New Zealand! He is really excited, i can see in his eyes (-;

I traveled by train from Budapest to Giessen, to the German Open 2010. It is quite a long trip and I had Blick and Trouble as company. It was a great opportunity for a Trouble challenge. Of course, you give little credit to your success against the ruling world champion but I could hardly miss this opportunity.

Surprisingly I won the first game by two tiles but not the second one. I didn't win Trouble but is it was still a great result for me.

Well, Mike, you are almost right. As I will go sometimes to Debrecen and probably I show Him the city (-; Yipppeeeeeeeeeeee

About the challange

Back in Edinburgh Niklas and me wanted to challange Rick, but at the end we didn't have time for it. So, when he entered the HO, i was quite happy to have a chance for winning Trouble.

On Friday, when I arrived to the restaurant for the draw, Rick was already there. So I took the opportunity, and i asked him when he would like to play (-: We started almost immediately with a Pocket Pack. In the first game actually he couldn't really do anything against my win, I had really good tiles and also I used them well (-:
I won by 13 tiles, so for the 2nd game it was very promising.

Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky in that game, maybe I could have won it, but Rick was leading only by 7, so I took some risk for a possible loop, which at the end didn't work out. I could build some, he also, so - if I remember well - it was around 7 tiles win for him.

Where is Trouble now?

I hope already on his way to Hungary in a box, because Rick didn't bring him here, but I can wait some time, so i don't have any trouble (-;

I see Rick has entered the HO. I guess Trouble is destined to spend the winter in Budapest :-)

Trouble loves the UK. Why did he insist Klaus lose his challenge, if not for an excuse to venture to Edinburgh, see the sites and find new domicile on these isles?

The challenge was a hard fought match - the first game coming down to a single tile victory (and lucky for Susi that we weren't using clocks). The second was never in doubt once the loop closed.

And so Trouble changed hands. And immediately both blick and Niklas wanted to challenge. Is it my fault that there was no time to play? For once, I did a runner the moment the tournament was wrapped. A further challenge offer a few days later from Mike was likewise defeated by a lack of time.

And so... Trouble has agreed to take on a new modelling career. He keeps going on about watching rugby, but I am steadfastly ignoring any such suggestions.

(And to think Jim wanted me to sum this up as simple as "Veni, Vidi, kicked Susi's butti.")

Trouble loves Germany

Back from Mallorca, Trouble seems to like sunny Germany. Nevertheless he's looking forward to going on holiday to Edinburgh in June - but begged me to bring him back again - and I'll do my very best!!!

After a couple of weeks, Klaus wanted to take Trouble over into his study rooms by winning the challenge, and to avoid letting him go to Scotland! It was a hard fight and I first seemed to loose Trouble to Klaus (loss by 1 point), but Trouble and I definitely wanted to stay together - and we succeeded in the second game (won by 9 points). So we'll both be enjoying the Royal Mile and the company of many nice people - and hopefully come back to Germany again together. :-)

Trouble in Mallorca

Actually, Trouble first came into my life a few days before I left NZ to fly to Europe. I was visiting my daughter in windy Wellington and checking out the game section at Kirkaldies (an up market department store). I must have got lost in the plush toy section, and somehow Trouble caught my eye (or I, his).

Soon Trouble and I were both at 30,000 feet flying off to France, and a few days later we went on to Mallorca where we had arranged to meet Klaus and Susi. I hope Trouble enjoyed his brief travels with me, because all too soon they were over. Susi took a liking to Trouble too (not sure if it was reciprocated) and challenged me to a match...winner gets to keep Trouble!

Nice idea for Susi, perhaps a nice idea for Tantrix, sad for me, because I always lose to Susi, and sad for Trouble (after all who would want to live in Germany?). So we played the match in the cafes of Soller - a cute "sun trap" mountain village, while Trouble watched.
